Engineering Resilient Industrial Systems: AI and Cybersecurity
Overview
Industrial machinery is evolving rapidly—becoming smarter, more autonomous, and more connected. As AI is deployed at the edge to improve performance, and cybersecurity threats grow in sophistication, machine builders and equipment manufacturers must address both challenges early in the design process.
In this session, MathWorks experts will show how Model-Based Design helps teams integrate AI into system-level simulations, monitor AI models at runtime, and design secure, resilient systems that meet emerging regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act and the Machinery Regulation.
Go beyond perimeter defense. Learn how to simulate threats, validate AI behavior, and build machines that are intelligent, secure, and ready for tomorrow’s operational and regulatory demands—before they leave the factory floor.
Highlights
- Go beyond perimeter defense with system-level threat modeling and simulation
- Integrate AI into system-level simulations to validate behavior before deployment
- Monitor AI models at runtime to ensure safe, predictable operation within their design limits (ODD)
- Simulate cyberattacks and evaluate system resilience under real-world conditions
- Design for secure edge deployment with traceable, testable architectures
- Prepare for EU regulations with workflows that support compliance from day one
- Reduce unplanned downtime and protect OEE by embedding AI and cybersecurity directly into the machine
About the Presenters
Martin Becker
Application Engineer | MathWorks
Martin holds a M.Sc. in electrical engineering/information technology from TU Munich (2012), and has submitted his PhD thesis focused on formal verification and timing analysis of embedded software to the chair of real-time computer systems at the same university. He is a proficient embedded systems developer with focus on ultra-low defect and high-integrity software. He originally studied communications engineering (Dipl.-Ing.(BA)) at DHBW Ravensburg/Friedrichshafen in cooperation with Airbus Defence and Space, where he has worked as an avionics concept design engineer for several years. Martin further worked as freelance teacher at Singapore Institute of Technology, and as visiting researcher at Tata Consultancy Services (Pune, India).
Lucas Garcia
