Application Engineer - Data Science / Big Data

Job Summary

MathWorks is seeking a highly motivated individual with technical experience and interest in developing data analytics, artificial intelligence, IoT or predictive maintenance applications and integrate MathWorks products with enterprise IT systems.

This pre-sales engineering position is characterized by close interaction with customers in a variety of industries with an emphasis on Aerospace/Defense, Finance, Automotive and Industrial Automation. Technical know-how, strong communication, and people skills are key ingredients for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our sales organization to provide technical guidance for successful adoption of MathWorks products

  • Establish instant credibility in front of customers by using your industry experience to integrate MathWorks products with enterprise IT systems

  • Managing product evaluations - prospective customers may require guidance on how to evaluate our products to prove their value within the constructs of a feasibility project.

  • Preparing and delivering technical presentations and demonstrations at both small customer meetings and to larger audiences at public and private events.

  • Working closely with the worldwide MathWorks application engineering, development, and marketing organizations to further improve products, to identify new application areas based on customer interactions, and to develop accurate and compelling messaging targeting the marketplace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in one of these areas: computational analysis, modeling, statistics, image processing, optimization, algorithm development tasks and analytics software such as MATLAB, R, Python.

     

  • Programming knowledge of one or more of: Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL, C/C++.

  • Broad interest in IT systems integration. Domains of particular interest are:

    • Big Data, e.g. Hadoop & Spark.

    • Cloud, e.g. Azure, AWS & GCP

    • Messaging and IoT related technologies, e.g. Kafka & IoT Hub.

    • Databases, e.g. MongoDB, SQL Server & Cassandra

    • Visualization, e.g. Tableau, Power BI & Spotfire.

  • Strong spoken and written French and English communication skills

     

  • Candidates must be willing to travel 30% of the time. Though far less frequent, some international travel is expected
