What qualifies as research to have to get the commercial license?

I would like to use Matlab for modeling (not to gather data but simply organize it). Does that mean I have to change my home license to a commercial one? I'm not affiliated with a university yet. Not sure if that qualifies as research if it only aids it.

The Home license can be used for entirely personal work -- work you are not being paid for (at all), work that is not being done for the advancement of your carrier.

If your intention is to get a grant that is in some respect covering the development of the work... then that does not qualify as Home license.

If the intention is to eventually sell the work -- then that does not qualify as Home license.

Home license is for private use, or at most releasing the work under an open-source license. Any website promoting the work must not be ad supported. Any YouTube channel promoting the work must not be ad supported.
