MATLAB DPI scaling problem on Linux

I installed MATLAB on linux today and it looks like it doesn't have out of the box support for UI scaling for high dpi screens. I was wondering if there is a way to enable UI scaling. I tried to switch to a different JRE but it didn't make a difference. I use Gnome desktop and pretty much every other app supports different dpi values so it is frustrating that MATLAB cannot do it (especially since it is already enabled on Windows and Mac OS X ports).
Any ideas to correct the tiny UI is welcome. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem. MATLAB is practically unusable without proper dpi-aware UI scaling on Linux. Like the poster, I have tried changing the JRE used to no avail. I've resorted to using a text-editor to create and edit *.m files, and MATLAB running in a terminal (without the desktop UI) to run them. Workarounds or bugfixes would be welcome.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround yet for this issue on Linux.
For Windows only, this issue has been fixed in R2015b release release and there is a workaround available in R2015a release of MATLAB that partially resolves the issues with blurriness and resizing of the MATLAB Desktop on Windows platform. The workaround patch can be downloaded from Bug Report ID 1054442.

Is there an update or an ETA on when a fix/update might land? I seem to still have the same issue on R2016b.

I would have to say that this remains an issue even in R2017b running on Windows10 64bit high DPI laptop -- default fonts render poorly, cursor disappearing in editor, etc.
Disappointing that Mathworks has not addressed this very well....I would gladly trade new features for better usability of existing version. Why do we pay "maintenance" if fundamental problems like this persist version-to-version?
