Problem with tick labels when exporting to EPS/PDF on Linux

Hello, I am running Matlab 2016a on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I visualized a matrix using the imagesc command, and then changed the x and y axis tick labels:
I can export this image to JPG/BMP/PNG/TIFF etc. but when I try to save the file as EPS or PDF the tick labels get misaligned (attached PDF). The issue is specific to Linux, it does not happen on a Windows machine.
How do I fix this?
