goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 3043. Fill-a-pix - Solver (basic)

@Rafael S.T. Vieira: while you are correct (along with Jean-Marie) in stating that the problem is not easy, the "basic" indicates, as you rightly mention, that simple logic applied to surrounding cells is all that is needed to solve this sort of puzzle. Of course, there are more complex boards wherein the "basic" logic is insufficient to completely solve them.

goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 44718. Optimize the Tollbooths

@Alfonso, I tested your suggestion against the reference solution provided by Aamod Garg (problem author). His solution worked for test cases 2 and 3, but failed 1, 4, and 5 due to that modification (therefore, I reverted to its original state). Do you have a further suggestion to fix this?

goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 1841. Rotate Matrix Both Direction (45 Degree)

@Rafael S.T. Vieira: as Andrew Newell pointed out, it would be better to only require two parameters, with the angle (n) allowing negative input, rather than the cw/ccw parameter (m) being required for the opposite direction (m = 2). That being said, the first test case is asking for 3 * 45 degrees rotation in a clockwise (m = 1) direction. The other test case is asking for 9 * 45 degree rotation in a counter-clockwise (m = 2) direction.

goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 10. Determine whether a vector is monotonically increasing

Also, the test case with x = [0 0 0 0 0] has been removed since it was originally marked as false. Technically, a monotonic function "is either entirely nonincreasing or nondecreasing" per Wolfram.com. Per this definition, that answer should have been true, as it would also be true for monotonically decreasing.

on 10 Apr 2020

goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 10. Determine whether a vector is monotonically increasing

The [former] second test case of x = [0] has been removed due to its tendency to cause confusion.

on 10 Apr 2020

goc3 submitted a Comment to Problem 44761. Lights Out 9 - 5x5, light-only solution? II

@ Nikolaos: are you sure it's the test suite and not a server error? If you get the following message, it is due to a temporary server problem, not a specific problem: "While evaluating the solution, the server encountered an error caused by temporary unavailability of MATLAB Service. Wait a few minutes for the MATLAB Service to return, and then rescore." If you are getting this error, simply try the problem again later or on a different day.

on 23 Oct 2019

goc3 submitted a Comment to Solution 1943859

Your function produces sOut in string format (in the last line of the function). The test suite defines the variables as character arrays instead of strings. These two data types cannot be directly compared—i.e., you'll have to return a character array. Also, when I run your function, it returns "hello" rather than "hlleo".
