Description

GeoDataSync® Framework is a powerful integration tool that connects MATLAB with Petrel, enabling seamless real-time data exchange for geoscientists and engineers in the upstream oil and gas industry. Using the client-server model, GeoDataSync eliminates the inefficiencies of traditional workflows, such as the need for intermediate file formats, significantly reducing data import/export times. This approach allows users to focus on the science of data analysis and application development without manual data handling.

With two modules, Develop and deploy, GeoDataSync offers flexibility for different user groups. The Develop module is ideal for those who prototype ideas and create custom algorithms using MATLAB, allowing direct interaction with live data in Petrel. The deploy module enables the distribution of these applications to a wider team, who can benefit from the tools without needing programming knowledge.

GeoDataSync supports diverse geoscience data types, including seismic, horizon, surface, and wireline data, making it highly versatile for various upstream workflows. Future development plans include extending support to other interpretation systems like OpendTect, DecisionSpace, and Kingdom, as well as the emerging Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU), ensuring it remains a forward-looking, adaptable solution for data integration and interpretation.

The end users of GeoDataSync Framework are geoscientists, engineers, and data scientists, primarily in the upstream oil and gas industry. These users work with data-intensive interpretation systems like Petrel and often need to integrate external tools like MATLAB to enhance their workflows. The framework caters to two distinct user groups:

GeoDataSync Develop (GDS-D) Users:
These are typically geoscientists or engineers proficient in MATLAB who create and prototype custom algorithms and applications. They rely on GeoDataSync to streamline data flow between systems, enabling real-time analysis and minimizing the need for manual data transfers. This group benefits from efficient, direct access to live data, allowing them to focus on innovative solution development.

GeoDataSync deploy (GDS-d) Users:
These users are geoscientists or engineers who use the software applications developed by the GDS-D users but may not have programming expertise. The GDS-d application allows them to access and use powerful custom algorithms without needing to handle code or complex data transfers.

GeoDataSync addresses applications such as seismic interpretation, data analysis, proprietary algorithm development, and enhanced productivity workflows, all essential in the upstream oil and gas sector for improving operational efficiency and decision-making.

GeoDataSync Framework integrates with MATLAB by enabling real-time data exchange between these tools and industry-standard geoscience interpretation platforms like Petrel. The framework uses a client-server model where MATLAB serves as the client, allowing users to directly access and manipulate live data stored in Petrel (the server) without needing intermediate file formats.

For users of MATLAB, GeoDataSync provides a set of easy-to-use "get," "put," and "create" functions that facilitate direct interaction with geoscience data types such as seismic, horizon, surface, and wireline data. These functions allow geoscientists and engineers to develop and prototype custom algorithms, analyze data, and create proprietary applications within MATLAB while ensuring data consistency and minimizing manual handling.

The framework also supports the deployment of these applications based on MATLAB to non-programming users via the GeoDataSync deploy application, making it easier for organizations to roll out custom tools and applications across their teams, even to those without knowledge of MATLAB.
