Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Testing for Power Electronics Systems Modeled in Simulink

Joel Van Sickel, MathWorks
Patric Schenk, Speedgoat

Overview

This webinar will demonstrate hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation of a motor and inverter running on an FPGA at a time-step of 1 µs. You will see how Simulink® and HDL Coder™ generate floating-point HDL that runs in real time on Speedgoat target hardware using Simulink Real-Time™.

Highlights

Topics covered include:

  1. Review of a system level model of a motor and inverter in Simulink
  2. Use of HDL Coder to generate floating-point HDL from the Simulink model to achieve a time-step of 1 µs
  3. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation using Simulink Real-Time and Speedgoat target hardware

About the Presenters

Joel Van Sickel is a senior application engineer at MathWorks focusing on power electronics and power systems, and specializing in real time systems, embedded control, and system simulation. He previously worked at Raytheon designing high voltage power electronics and received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.

Patric Schenk is VP of Sales and Engineering at Speedgoat. Before joining Speedgoat, Patric worked at MathWorks for 8 years in the areas of Model-Based Design, real-time testing, technical computing, and computational finance.
