What should I do if MATLAB no longer opens from its shortcut?

I can't get MATLAB to open from its shortcut on OS X 10.10. I tried reinstalling it but the installer won't open either. However if I run it from the Terminal, it works just fine. I wonder if it has to do with me recently upgrading Java to 1.8?

I doubt it. Where is the shortcut: on the desktop, taskbar, start menu, or a group under "All Programs" (if using Windows)?

What symptom do you see with the installer? And which MATLAB version?

try repairing installation of matlab , or re-install it.
