Problem with detection of multicolinearity in a matrix

Well, title says it all. The problem is that i would like to find whether my independent variables are really independents. I only found the collintest function but that would require to test every x by pairs and would be too much hard coding. Any idea anyone? Sincerely,

would a correlation matrix help you out?
RHO = corr(X)
