I am working on finger print recognisation ,I have to do "graphical illustration for defining the blocks of interest for feature extraction "can anyone tell the formula how to proceed.

Are you referring to a particular paper, such as Improvement of Fingerprint Retrieval by a Statistical Classifier which happens to contain that exact phrase?

I do not appear to have (free) access to that particular IEEE paper.
