Linux frozen while adjusting matlab figure

Dear Users,
I have an issue with adjusting figures in matlab. Whenever I resize the figure in its editing mode, the whole system is frozen.
I have installed Matlab 2013a (Student Version) on Linux Mint 16. It used to work ok before but I had to reinstall the system due to some other issues.
Please advise me.
