Matlab 2021b does not run from taskbar pin on kubuntu 21.10

Im running Kubuntu 21.10 on a fresh install. I've created a .desktop file for Matlab which works and does not produce any errors when loading with terminal. I've also created a bashrc alias so I can start matlab in terminal without needing the full path. Both options work fine and Matlab pops up after the splash screen.

However, when I pin my running Matlab to the taskbar and then try to start it using the pin nothing happens after the splash screen.
