pressing enter in command window does not execute the code in Matlab 2021b

>> 1+1

should return 2 after pressing enter, however matlab does nothing - no reaction.

I am using Matlab 2021b and Mac Pro(M1 Max).

Is the problem with all commands or some specific commands?

Does the command prompt symbol (>>) show up in next line after you press Enter?

I don't know anymore, i am using matlab 2020b again.
