is there a way to download matlab r2010a when I already have the serial number?

I purchse a CD for matlab r2010a from the bookstore on campus. At that time I had a laptop that I use at home. The laptop have dvd drive so I had no problem in the installation. But the laptop is too heavy for me to commute to campus daily and I got a mini netbook which doesn't have a DVD driver. So is there an alternative way for me to install it without inserting the disk???

For this type of question, please contact the Mathworks tech support. I believe they will have a way for you to install without DVD drive.
Once the serial number is associated with your MatlabCentral profile by using the "Add license function" here then you should be able to use the "Get licensed products and updates" link over here

That doesn't work with the MATLAB Student Version. They have serial numbers instead of license numbers and don't use the license center.
(not to be confused with an academic license, but I since it says serial number, it sounds like the MATLAB Student Version you can get for about $100)

You can copy the DVD to a USB stick. Or you can create a ISO image, copy it to the netbook and mount it by VirtualCloneDrive.
how can i convert iso file to .exe file ?? is ther any software for that ??

You can't. ISO files are volume copies. You can burn them on a DVD or mount them directly. But you cannot convert them to an executable.

Another alternate method:
Put both machines on the same network, share the DVD drive. Here's how:
On the machine with the DVD drive, in Windows Explorer, right-clicking on the DVD drive and select "Share". Make note of the share name, and make it Read-Only for Everyone. Also, find out the IP address of this system.
On the other machine, go to "Map Network Drive", then enter the IP address of the machine, as well as the share name. You should see the contents of the cd in the mapped drive. Run the install.
Unmap the drive and turn off sharing for the DVD when the install completes.
If you can't make the connection, turn off firewalls on both machines. Turn the firewalls back on when you are done.

This is not secure, if your network has a connection to the internet. Neither turning off the firewall nor sharing the contents of a Matlab installation DVD with everyone is a good idea.
If you want to do this more securely, you can map the drive as the username on the remote system and set up the share to only be accessible to that user account. But that can get to be esoteric and weird when it starts going awry.
It's also not a guarantee that you will need to turn off the firewalls, Windows may leave this stuff unblocked when firewall is enabled.
You could also pull the Internet connection off of the router for the duration of the copy, as well.
I've had to use similar methods to transfer data when the data transfer amount exceeded the amount that could fit on any available thumb drive.
Sorry, Jason, I'm only talking about a personal experience: I've found a mounted DVD visible in the University network, because somebody wanted to install Matlab on some machines. Several thousand students had access for hours.
Your methods are fine, if you do this in a private home network. If your network can be accessed by others, be careful.
I would expect that the CD drive in that machine was close to melting! I've tried a similar technique with two (or more) machines accessing the cdrom drive -- the motor inside was more than a little confused!
We should all be careful, it is a dangerous computing world out there. Thanks for the reminder!
My MATLAB R2010a software activation code does not work now how can i get it ?
