Throughput Of Cooperative Communication System

I'm working On Cooperative Communication and need to calculate its throughput . i have to initiate this work so any body who can help me in please share with me.... i just need to know any formula/method/research paper etc etc

i have a following scenario

let the transmitted signal is

Tx= x + N

where N is additive Noise.

Signal received is

Yx= x.h + N

where h is Channel fades.

By assuming Tx & Yx as bits i calculate the BER via " biterr " function

this is all i have done.. i now want to calculate the throughput of system

Can i do this Via BER vector.. ?? Please Guide me
