Subsampling an image using subplot

How do I go about using the subplot command to subsample an image I have added to my workspace (named tw2) by a factor of 2, 5, etc. and also display the results of the images?

You don't use subplot(). You use indexing:

subImage = tw2(1:5:end, 1:5:end); % Subsample by 5 in each direction.
