Do we need an external hardware to run a Simulink model in Rapid Accelerator mode?

Hello community,
I am really struggling to have my Simulink model running faster. I really need that for calibration purposes.
Using the accelerator mode, the model runs a bit faster. However, the speed is not enough. I wanted to try the Rapid Accelerator mode.
However, I have ended up into a number of issues and errors that I am not able to overcome on my own. This is the error I get:
Error occurred while executing External Mode MEX-file 'ext_comm': Failed to connect to the targetError occurred while executing External Mode MEX-file 'ext_comm': Failed to connect to the target. A time-out occurred while waiting for the connection response from the target. Possible reasons for the time-out:
a) The target is not switched on.
b) The target is not connected to your host machine.
c) The application for the model is not running on the target. You might have clicked the Stop button. If the Run button is not dimmed, click it. Otherwise, click the Build button, which downloads and runs your application on the target.
I have here searched for answers to the same error. However, I have started realizing I may need an external hardware to be able to the run under Rapid Accelerator. Is that correct? When I open simulink, I don't see the HARDWARE TAB. I have tried to install hardware supporters from the Add-on but what I can understand is that I need to plug in my computer an external hardware otherwise it won't work. Can you confirm this? How else am I going to be able to run my simulink model with Rapid Accelerator? Do you have any shortcut?
Note that I am not specialized in informatics, so kindly use only very basic language easy to follow. I really need to speed up my model.
Thanks :)

No, you shouldn't need to plug in to external hardware unless there's some specific requirement to do so based on your model or model configuration.

I'm afraid I don't. I don't use Rapid Accelerator. But I can buld a simple model and run using Rapid Accelerator without a problem, hence my conclusion that the issue is unique to your model, model configuration, or something else.
Maybe you should creating a new, simple model from scratch and try to run it in Rapid Accelerator. If successful, then I'd start by comparing the model configurations.
