Cannot Load .Mat file into workspace

I have been saving data into a structure variable, then loading the variable whenever i want to append new data to the file.

as of a few days ago, trying to load the file throws the following error:

Error using load

Cannot read file fillerfilename.mat

This file is large ~310MB

the file is saved as a v7.3
