Why is text fainter on the newer editor?

Something happened to the editor colours on newer Matlab versions. The text is decidedly fainter as you can see in the above screenshot which I've taken on the same computer and monitor. Is there a way to go back to how it was?

Have you checked the color settings for text in MATLAB?

Home tab > Preferences > Colors

The way the editor renders is different, so I'd expect differences. There have been complaints about blurriness, but I don't recall something like this.

It almost looks like a different font weight. Check to make sure the fonts are the same, and bear in mind that "monospace" is an alias, not a specific font.

That said, I run R2019b, so I have no first-hand experience with these problems.

Courier New on both, but the difference persists. Identical color preferences. The cmd command in the link doesn't seem to have done anything.

I guess this is something I have to live with?
