real time visual inertial odometry in Matlab

hi i want to ask if it is possible to process a video in real time from a pair of stereocam frame by frame for implementing a visual inertial odometry algo in my autonomus robot? can this be done without even using opencv and solely on the base of matlab? AND ALSO how efficient will it be compared to opencv?
