Creating symbolic functionAnd variable

sims and symfun Are no longer recognised commands however I can create a variable with symvar. Is there a document page that outlinesSetting up functions and variables? I have read that in recent versions of Matlab this procedure has changed.

I'm fairly certain the commands you're looking for are sym and syms, and they have been part of Symbolic Math Toolbox for many years now. Their names have not changed, though their capabilities have increased in some recent releases.

Thank you, I possess this toolbox but stupidly I hadn't started it, therefore the commands were not recognised.
