subplotting image with points

Hi i have written code to plot a path on to an image of a map.The x and y variables included are variables i have calculated in a different script. Can anyone help with getting the path to show on the picture.
hold on
imread('map.PNG');
x = eastingnorthing(:,2);
y = eastingnorthing(:,3);
plot(x,y);
hold off
