how to save the data of an opened file by uigetfile in the workspace

hello all,

i want to create a window that would be opened by a pushbutton, to open a file (a txt file) and then to load it to the workspace of matlab, i tried this code, it worked correctly but in the end i found nothing in the workspace, it doesn't save the data

filename = uigetfile('*.txt*',  'All Files (*.txt*)');
filename = uiimport(filename);

imene - rather than re-using the same variable name for the data that is being imported, try

 filename = uigetfile('*.txt*',  'All Files (*.txt*)');
 data     = uiimport(filename);

Now data is a struct that has the data that you have imported..which is in the workspace of your pushbutton callback. Depending upon how you have developed your GUI, you can either save this data to the handles structure (if using GUIDE) or you can save it to a local variable within your parent function that creates the GUI (assuming that you have nested your callback within that parent).

hello Geoff, i still have the same problem,

as it looks in the first image, i found nothing in my workspace after runing the code, but, by adding the line (assignin('base','data',data)) i got data (named data) witch i don't know what is it, and inside this data my data (named helo),

i want to get directly the data named helo in my workspace after running the code, how to do that ?

imene - why do you want to get this data in your workspace especially as you are using a GUI?

because i want to use it in a function, that will give me a new data that i will plot, by using evalin

Why not just call the function from within your GUI? Why use the GUI to import the data if the GUI is not even going to make use of it?

because i'm creating an interface to communicate with a user, well the user have to upload a file that contains the measured energy of every hour of a year, so it's a lot of numbers contained in this file, i will use this data to calculate the state of charge of my batteries by the soalr pannels, so i'm going to upload this data in the workspace, and call it by evalin to insert it in my equations, to obtain finaly a new file that contains the results of my equation, the problem is how to put the uploaded file in the workspace ?

But why can't you do all that from within the GUI? Anyway, I think that what you are looking for is assignin but I would advise against using it.

 data     = load(filename);
 (assignin('base','data',data));

the tric is in 'load'
