Is there a neural network tool box writeen by other language and apply matlab API?

I am using matlab build-in functions patternnet and train in my program. But I find that the program is too slow. Is there a third-party ANN toolbox which is writen by other language and complied by mexfile? for example,like libsvm is faster than build-in SVM.

Note: libsvm came first, and MATLAB largely adopted its calling pattern.
