Ultrasound despeckling assessment index for filter evaluation

Hello everyone,

I am trying to understand how to implement the ultrasound despeckling assessment index Q from this paper : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2784081/#R12 ,(equation 14) (which was introduced in "ULTRASOUND DESPECKLING USING AN ADAPTIVE WINDOW STOCHASTIC APPROACH "). I want to evaluate some filters that I applied on my simulated image but I am having troubles on understanding how this metric works. It's not for a uni project but I may include it on my thesis. Can anyone help?
