What method do I overload to control display behavior in the workspace window?

When using a subclass of double (for example the ExtendDouble class from the documentation example ), an empty value has an error when displaying in the workspace window:

What is the method I have to overload (or other solution) to control this behavior and get the Value column to display either '0x0 ExtendDouble' or '[]'?
