Generating difference table for Newton interpolation method

I am using the following code to generate forward difference table.

diff=yd'; for j=2:n for i=1:n-(j-1) diff(i,j)=diff(i+1,j-1)-diff(i,j-1) end end

Is there any simple method or function in MATLAB to generate forward / backward difference table
