Possible to disable Toolbar in R2018b?

Hi
The addition of the "toolbar" to axes significantly slows down a GUI I have built. From https://se.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/419036-what-happened-to-the-figure-toolbar-in-r2018b-why-is-it-an-axes-toolbar-how-can-i-put-the-buttons I can tell many others have similar problems.
The answers you provide in the above link do not disable the mouse motion callbacks, it only hides the toolbar from view:

I have a measurement tool that relies on mouse motion callbacks. It might appear as a neglible time addition with the toolbar mouse motion callbacks, but it significantly degrades performance.
Can you provide a fix for completly disabling the new Toolbar, including disabling the callbacks?
Thanks
- Peter

Trust me, you are not alone.
This change is very stupid, and the documentation is quite poor !
We can see that this is not technically ready yet, but they push it forward.
Not sure if they take feedback from the users, I would doubt this.
Their solution does not apply to subplot, and is not reliable at all, many times the axistoolbar comes back and makes the code break - kind of random activation of this hidden axis.
