what does the below code mean

I am looking at a code which has the following lines of code.

global ALM;

ALM.static_rows = 10;

what does ALM.static_rows mean?

can a global variable be used like that? please explain

ALM.static_rows most likely means that ALM is a structure

It could also be a custom class, but that is unlikely given the use of global.
