Is there any difference in using custom plotFcn and custom outputFcn with the genetic algorithm?

I am running an optimisation that requires both custom outputFcn and custom plotFcn. However, the requirement for the custom plotFcn seems irrelevant if I can just use the custom outputFcn. Is there any specific differences the two, and is there a a reason to use one over the other?
