Change Julian date read in from excel to a MM-dd-yyyy form and plotting

Right now I have julian days that I am reading in from excel and I want to change them to a MM-dd-yyyy format for plotting in matlab. How do I do this?

Is it really Julian Days, or is it really Day of the Year? Can you post some sample data?
