Is there were a way to specify that the output of the textread function be saved into matrices with more than one column?
Yes:
[mat1(:,1), mat1(:,2), mat1(:,3), mat2, mat3(:,1), mat3(:,2), mat3(:,3), mat4] = textread('myfile.txt', %f %f %f %*s %*s %*s %f %f %f)

"is there were a way to specify that the output of the textread" See textscan, 'CollectOutput', true
"Is this possible with textread()?"
  • Note: textread is not recommended. Use textscan instead.
  • Not as far as I know
