imread error when using it

I am trying to use imread('image.jpg') to an image but the error that occurs is

Error: File: imread.m Line: 576 Column: 1

This statement is not inside any function.

(It follows the END that terminates the definition of

the function "get_full_filename".)

I don't know what to do I have tried it with different images.

What can I do ?

Did you happen to edit the file imread.m?

Type

open imread

in the command window to open imread.m, and then scroll to the bottom. The 'end' in Line 575 should be the last text in the file.
