Try this

eq = Z == 1.4*X^2+1;
X(Z) = solve(eq, X);
z = 0:0.1:30;
result = X(z)

Since z is quadratic in terms of 'x', therefore, inverting, it will give you two solutions.

In MATLAB, the name of the variable is case sensitive. Write upper and lower case X and Z the same as I have written in my code.
