How do I create a plot within another plot?

Recently I saw a picture like this in a paper:

The main picture is a plot of measured data and its linear fitted line. the upper right part is the distribution (histogram) of the data around the line.

My question: Is there any way to generate such picture in Matlab?

Yes you can create that figure in MATLAB. You can create a rotated inset axes by adjusting the axes Position and CameraUpVector properties.
