What's an Exported-Function Model?

I've come across the Exported-Function Model concept while exploring the Embedded Coder but I don't get it.
Can anyone help me understand?

Basically, the whole model is generated as a single function or multiple functions. How it is called and when it is called are determined by outsiders.
