refer a colorbar to a specific set of data

Hi,

I am plotting a 2d temperature field (with countour) and on the same plot I am showing the values of temperature register by a passing ship (just a 1d vector of temperature values) with a color scale. I would like the values showed by a colorbar to only refer to the range of data register by the ship (this range is smaller then the range of 2d temperature field values).

I tried setting limitis for the range of the colorbar with

c=colorbar
c.Limits=[min(ship_temp) max(ship_temp)]

But that does not solve the problem because now the colorbar is almost of one color.
