convexhull and mean caliper diameter in matlab

For a given image how can we calculate convexhull and mean caliper diameter. I am very new to convexhull and mean caliper diameter terms in matlab. Guide me with the code.

I find a routine for Minimum Caliper Diameter inside the contribution http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/7844-geom2d but mean caliper does not make immediate sense to me.
