The comment on the figure indicate that you got the right answer by computing the area of the histogram and dividing by that. I'm not sure what problem remains.

The way I understand it is that you want the plot to have more white space. Have you considered redefining the axis limits?

Try using

axis([xmin,xmax,ymin,ymax])
