Due to some large equations I have, my system lags while Matlab searches for usages of the variable I click on. I have disabled the automatic highlighting of all the instances, but this doesn't stop Matlab from still searching for each instant.
This is killing my productivity as I have to wait after every click for Matlab to think. Is there anyway to disable the searching completely?
I guess I could open up my script in notepad...

I am having the same exact issue! I have to wait a FULL MINUTE before my entire MATLAB environment unfreezes after clicking on or moving my cursor to a new variable.
It is essentially impossible for me to debug functions with many usages of certain variables (e.g., ~1000 instances, takes forever to "find" them all).

I'm having the same issue. After 2000 instances I must wait a long period to Matlab find all usages.

Home -> Preferences -> Colors -> Programming Tools -> variable and function colors : uncheck Automatically highlights.
The beauty of Matlab (in my opinion) is that you can still use this feature by Ctrl + Shift + H occassionally whenever you need it.
