Exporting plots with semi-transparent patch objects in vector format (Illustrator)

There are a few of easy to use scripts for exporting Matlab plots in vector format, like export_fig, pptfigure, etc. Unfortunately, none of them support semi-transparent patch objects. Export_fig supports those only when the output format is bitmap.
Any ideas?

Have you tried plot2svg ( http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/7401-scalable-vector-graphics-svg-export-of-figures)? I have used it to export semi-transparent patches to .svg, which can be opened with Illustrator, with no problem.
