When I am on campus and connected to the University network, I can launch matlab in Ubuntu 12.04 by running
/usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/bin/matlab
in the terminal. When I am off-campus yet connected to the University VPN, and run the previous command, I get the following error:
/usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/bin/matlab: 1: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/bin/util/oscheck.sh: /lib/libc.so.6: not found
License checkout failed.
License Manager Error -15
MATLAB is unable to connect to the license server.
Check that the license manager has been started, and that the MATLAB client machine can communicate with the license server.
Troubleshoot this issue by visiting:

Diagnostic Information:
Feature: MATLAB
License path: /home/paulina/.matlab/R2012a_licenses:/usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/licenses/license.dat:/usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/licenses/network.lic
Licensing error: -15,570. System Error: 115
As suggest in the above error message, I visited
I followed the advice given, but it did not help. I installed Matlab for the first time, and the license was recently sent so updating the license file as recommended in
is not the issue. Additionally, I went through
and none of the issues stated apply to me, thus the proposed solutions therein do not resolve my problem. I am aware that upon launching Matlab, a verification process of the license occurs using the server. Yet I connect to the same server using VPN, so why am I having this issue?

It sounds like you cannot connect to the license server. Is the VPN setup correctly? Does your terminal make use of the VPN? Is the MATLAB license server available via the VPN? This sounds like a question for your local IT people, but you can try asking TMW directly.

It clearly shows that MATLAB is not able to connect with license server, as mentioned in solution http://www.mathworks.com/support/lme/R2012a/15 , you are able to ping hostname or not if it is able to ping while VPN connectivity, so you are not able to launch MATLAB.
Cause I already setup this for one of my client and its worked properly.
