What do you call "Matlab files"? which file extension do they have? M, P, MAT, MLX, ...?
Based on the information "random characters", there is no chance to recover the files. If you mean e.g. P files and you open them with an editor, you should see characters, which look random. But they aren't.

m files. I cannot copy paste since site does not allow. They are not random, I cannot understand what they are. They are like random but not. Matwork site does not allow me to paste

If it is an mfile you should be able to attach the file to your question or a comment. Otherwise you could put it in a zip file and attach that instead.

This is a part of a black&white image from a PDF.
I assume, the file system table of the hard disk is corrupted. Then the recovery of the files was not successful. You get some bytes which had a meaning, but you cannot reconstruct the data reliably.
