When did the "function ans = " trick start working again?

It started to work when Cody server upgraded its MATLAB to R2016b. So strictly speaking, it's not just a Cody trick, but a MATLAB R2016b feature. This feature was somewhat discontinued in R2016a, but it works in many earlier versions.
