Attempting to install MATLAB or a Toolbox results in the following error message:
ERROR: TMW_Archive license checkout failed. Future license
file format or misspelling in license file. The file was
issued for a later version of FLEXnet Licensing than
this program understand.

This error message is an indication that there is something wrong with the INCREMENT lines of your license.dat file. This may be the result of having tabs or extra carriage returns within the lines. Below is an example of what you will want your license.dat file to look like:
# BEGIN------cut here------CUT HERE-----BEGIN
# MATLAB license passcode file.
# LicenseNo: 123456 HostID: ID=123456
INCREMENT TMW_Archive MLM 17 01-jan-0000 0 DD4612345615067CEFFC \
VENDOR_STRING=4000147258 HOSTID=DEMO SN=123456
INCREMENT MATLAB MLM 17 01-jan-0000 1 ED46D76543211C7BE8A8 USER_BASED \
DUP_GROUP=U SN=123456
If you are receiving this error regarding "TMW_Archive Application version > License version:", then this error occurs when you are using a license file that has been created for a previous version of MATLAB then you are attempting to install.
If you are still unable to install MATLAB after ensuring the above is correct, contact Technical Support:
