Exchanging data between matlab and labviews application running in parralel

Dear all,
I'd like to exchange data between labview and matlab during parallel work. Ideally, I'd like to have some 'global' variables (or some buffers) so both Matlab routines and Labviews VIs could read and write when working in parallel.
What strategy would you suggest to start from?
