Sending data to COM port from MATLAB.

We are doing a project which requires sending data to COM port. We have build a MATLAB program which does half of the task of the project, i.e. the part of counting objects. To show the object count, we intend to use a microcontroller, which will take the object count from the MATLAB program through a COM port and then show the value on a display connected to the microcontroller.

We are done with the object counting part but we need your help in respect to send the object-count data from the MATLAB program to the COM port. Can you help with the coding for this task? Thanks.
