click a pushbutton automatically

Hi:

I want that a pushbutton will be clicked automatically when a variable in the opening_fcn of the GUI is 1.

I tried with this

function autoclick_OpeningFcn(hObject, eventdata, handles, varargin)
 variable=1

   if variable==1
    set(handles.pushbutton1,'enable','on');
    end

But i think enable it isnt the correct command.

Any sugestion?
