I am having problems getting MATLAB to start in Ubuntu

I am trying to run MATLAB in ubuntu. It has worked fine for a long time, but today when I clicked on MATLAB, it opened the terminal window. but no MATLAB window.

Its probably simple, but I know almost nothing about Ubuntu.

any help is greatly appreciated!

If you try and start MATLAB from a terminal window, instead of from a launcher, you might get a useful error message. You can start a terminal window however you prefer (if you don't know how alt+f2 should get you a run dialog and you can type xterm). In the terminal type: $MATLABPATH/bin/matlab where $MATLABPATH is the path of your install (for me that it is /usr/local/matlab/r2010b).

The behaviour has changed yesterday. Then inspect all changes you have applied yesterday and undo the one, which causes the difference.

There is absolutely no chance for us to guess what you have changed.
